Muscle Failure with the Bowflex?
Published on May 4, 2007 By MythicalMino In Sports & Leisure
So, I have started working out this week. Three days so far (Monday, Wed, and Friday). I have a question, though.

When exactly does "muscle failure" happen? I have read that I am to do an exercise up to 13 reps OR until muscle failure takes place. I noticed today, for example, that doing the bench press, by about 8 or 9 reps, I really started to "shake". Is that muscle failure? Or would muscle failure actaully take place when I simply cannot lift anymore?

It would seem that failure would happen once those particular muscles simply cannot do it anymore without help from the rest of the body. Anyone know anything about strength training and when actual muscle failure takes place?

Thanks

Chris

Am not sure about when it takes place, but since I lift weights I'll tell you from my experience with it. It's when you can't go anymore! You do your reps, as many times as possible and when you cannot possibly lift another one, so yes, when your arm starts to shake, that's it! And doing it every other day is a good thing. Your muscles need to rest in between work out and it is effective that way.

ok...that is what I figured.

As far as working out....feels great, even though I am sore.

Thanks!!
